The job market has changed. Here's how to keep up.
Applying online and waiting no longer works the way it used to. What's different now, and what still gets people hired.
What changed
A few years ago you could send out applications and expect some replies. Today a single opening can draw hundreds of applicants, many posts are already filled or never filled, and software screens resumes before a person ever sees them. AI is also changing which tasks companies hire for.
What still works
- Fewer, better applications to jobs you can actually get.
- People: a referral or a friendly introduction still beats a cold application.
- Following up once, politely, about a week after you apply.
- Showing up in person where it fits, such as restaurants, shops and clinics.
Where to aim
Look at roles that are growing and hard for AI to replace: health care support, skilled trades, public service, and work built on people and trust. Part-time and temp-to-hire roles are good ways in.
Let AI do the sorting
Searching every site, every day, is exhausting. TodayForMe™ does that for you: it learns what you want, finds openings near you, ranks the ones you can get, and explains why each one fits. You stay in charge of where to apply.
